GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations)

Added on Monday 23 Oct 2017

The GDPR data protection regulations become enforceable from 25 May 2018.  The regulations will apply to data such as HR records, customer lists, contact details and used for purposes such as campaigning, fundraising and volunteer management.

There will be severe penalties for serious breaches and non-compliance, potentially leading to reputational damage, business disruption and revenue loss.

The Government has confirmed that the UK's decision to leave the EU will not affect the commencement of the GDPR.

All organisations should undertake an audit of personal data held, what action should be taken to safeguard the information, including who should have access to it and how it is stored.  Individuals will have rights to see the personal information held about them and to have it removed if they so wish.
